Injury Claims Against New York's Correction Dept. Doubled in 5 Years, Report Says [NYTimes.com]

The New York TimesThe report adds to a growing body of evidence of disturbing practices at Rikers Island, the country's second-largest jail complex with 12,000 inmates. The report, which is to be released on Wednesday, comes as the City Council is expected to approve legislation on Thursday that would require the Correction Department to post online quarterly reports on solitary confinement, including the number of inmates placed in punitive segregation, their ages, mental health and length of stay.
