Human Beings Learn Through Stories

and we have four teaching stories for your team.

This month at Partner for Healing we shared healing stories which convey essential principles of trauma-informed care. They are excellent for staff training and will provoke lively discussions with your team. Each story was accompanied by a Learning Guide that summarized the essential points for team discussion.

The first story of Dahlia and the Milk demonstrates how every day moments can become healing…or not. Our own assumptions make the difference. Then we get to know LaTasha, who won’t eat. Is this and eating disorder? Or defiance? If we give her an individualized response won’t all the girls want the same?

The Treatment Team members are all stressed out by Marcus, who is drawing violent pictures. Even his therapist is thinking he will grow up to be a murderer. Should we take away his drawing supplies?

Finally there’s Malina who didn’t earn her home visit-and she is blaming her teacher! She just won’t take responsibility for her behavior. What is the team supposed to do?

Partner for Healing offers practical guidance and compassionate solutions for trauma care professionals. Stories like these can be a source of great learning. Please come join us!
