"In the spirit of Thanksgiving, among the wonderful gifts of the job I hold is the joy and insight of conversation. I know, this doesn’t sound terribly exciting. But a private foundation is really about the business of ideas, and for someone who cherishes new thinking to solve crusty, thorny, social challenges, today was even more fascinating than most.
We host a wide range of health and health-related conferences and discussions at our Center for Healthy Communities. I did a drive-by at two of them this morning. The first was a fascinating presentation by Dr. Vince Felitti of Kaiser Permanente, hosted by the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic. I have been familiar with Dr. Felitti’s research for several years now, regarding his brilliant work on the ACE Study (Adverse Childhood Experiences Study). Dr. Felitti and his team at Kaiser studied chronic disease patterns in thousands of Kaiser Permanente patients, and defined a powerful relationship between exposure to childhood adversity and health status in adulthood many decades later...."
