The idea was to create a beautiful place that inspires clients and staff at Denton County MHMR Center — flowers, dozens of them, in gardens at the center on Scripture Street in Denton.
Dr. Bharat Patel, or “Dr. B” as his patients call him, is a master gardener. Colten Koch is a Boy Scout with Troop 164 who needed a community project for his Eagle Scout badge. Together, they teamed up with 30 other Boy Scouts to create a garden of mental health well-being.
“Most of the time, I don’t have enough manpower for what I want to do,” said Patel, who’s been working at Denton County MHMR for 25 years. “But I think it’s the best landscaping in the whole county.”
About eight weeks ago, Patel and his colleagues began thinking of ways to involve the Denton community, and someone mentioned the Boy Scouts. Mark Chadwick, MHMR’s chief financial officer, is involved with the Boy Scouts. He checked with Troop 164 of Denton, and Koch volunteered to perform the gardening project for his Eagle Scout badge.
