Here’s What Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ and Anti-'Woke’ Bills Actually Say [edweek.org]

Florida’s legislature passed controversial bills in the past two weeks affecting conversations about race and racism in the classroom, as well as restricting younger students’ access to lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The bills—widely referred to as an anti-"woke” bill and a “Don’t Say Gay” bill—have been covered extensively in national media and even late night television. However, the actual language in the two bills is vague on details about what teachers could or couldn’t teach in the classroom. And in a highly polarized political environment, the bills’ details often have been mischaracterized.

The two measures are part of a nationwide, largely conservative push to limit lessons on systemic racism, sexism, gender and sexuality, and LGBTQ+ topics. Fifteen states have passed similar legislation over the past year, and 26 others have introduced bills attempting to restrict these lessons.

I am as left as you can get and still be non-delusional.  I went house to house canvassing for Obama in Iowa.  I was a strong ground worker for Bernie Sanders and consider myself a Democratic Socialist.

I have never voted for or considered voting for a Republican in my life.

I also support everything coming from Governor DeSantis.

I find "Woke" to be dangerous, cruel, anathema to Free-Speech and Democracy, common sense, common decency, reason and a functional society.

"Woke" is Cancel Culture and is a gentler Mao Zedong's Cultural Purge.

And it's isn't okay to teach sexual concepts to little kids.   School is for teaching reading and math.

There comes a point where the Left has gone too far.  I don't want to find myself in a space where the Left is promoting pedophilia "as long as the child is okay with it" in the future, but after how far we have come in the last 10 years, I wouldn't be shocked if I see that happening.

I also find it despicable for the left to demonize parents.   We have so many people suffering the consequences of Developmental Trauma because their parents did not know how important they are in the regulation of their infants and their special role in providing infants with secure attachment.

The goal should be to make it better for infants, children and the adults they become NOT to turn the entire world into a war zone.  When babies grow up to be secure and balanced people, we have a secure, balanced, just, humanized and humanizing world.

Anyway - Two good books for anyone interested are 1.  Why Love Matters 2. The Science of Parenting

Thanks
