The Opportunity        

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Project Officer is a crucial team member who provides high-quality and equity-focused consultation, facilitation, technical assistance, and collaborative learning services for community leaders and funding partners. They offer a multi-regional and/or national perspective and expertise that strengthens Healthy Places by Design’s position as a trusted leader, and advances the field of healthy, equitable communities. Their contributions embody the organization’s core values and integrate the key components and essential practices of the Community Action Model.

This is a full-time, remote position with outstanding benefits and a salary range of $80-100K, depending on experience level. Candidates who live and/or have relevant experience and networks in the southeast are strongly encouraged to apply.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Leadership and Consultation:

·       Provide high-quality, and equity-focused consultation, facilitation, technical assistance, and support to individuals and portfolios of clients, including community partnerships, local and national coalition leaders, mission partners, and funders.

·       Work with clients (and colleagues) to ensure effective project implementation and fulfillment of goals and deliverables.

·       Coordinate collaborative learning activities with team members.

·       Support other team leads on projects as needed.

·       Lead special projects as needed (e.g., facilitate strategic planning efforts, develop new training program).

Research and Development:

·       Advance the field by maintaining content expertise and staying current on emerging issues.

·       In collaboration with the team, develop new resources, toolkits, and publications; assess, document, and share best practices and key lessons learned; and identify ways to foster innovation in the organization and its initiatives.

Business Development:

·       Identify, steward, and secure new projects with existing and prospective clients by leveraging cross-project learning and forging external relationships that feed business development opportunities.

·       Help spearhead new program development in collaboration with team members, including writing proposals to acquire new work and expand possibilities with existing clients.

·       Represent the organization at conferences and meetings, including facilitation services and presentations.

Partnerships/External Relations:

·       Network, coordinate, and promote project activities and organizational values with other organizations/constituents.

·       Collaborate with team members to identify potential partnerships and to share insights from ongoing networking activities.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

·       Master’s degree preferred and in sectors that advance community health (e.g., public health, city and regional planning, housing, transportation, community, or economic development),

·       At least 10 years of work experience providing consultation, facilitation, and technical assistance to and/or working directly with diverse healthy communities’ coalitions.

·       A deep understanding of the principles of equity at multiple levels (e.g., racial, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, health, ability). Life and/or professional experience working across various differences (i.e., race, ethnicity, gender, income, education, power), including direct community engagement. 

·       Extensive knowledge of and experience in some (and a general understanding of other) disciplines related to the social determinants of health (e.g., public health, transportation, housing, community/clinic integration, education, and community or economic development).

·       Familiarity with a collaborative, community-centered, and systems approach to population health.

·       Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of organizations relevant to the program, including public health organizations, local governments, non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, and funding agencies.

·       Experience delivering high-quality consultation, facilitation, and technical assistance in collaboration with diverse populations and staff, and the ability to interact with a wide range of constituents, ranging from policy makers to practitioners to community members.

·       A high degree of skill and experience in managing multiple projects with virtual teams and external partners, and managing the details to effectively move the work forward.

·       Experience designing, evaluating, and disseminating the results of funded initiatives.

·       Excellent oral and written communications skills; expertise delivering capacity-building training and presentations for in-person and virtual audiences, writing for publications, and developing technical assistance tools and resources.

·       Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building, problem solving and resolving conflicts.

·       Ability to think creatively and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.

·       Passion for and personal commitment to our mission and values of equity, community, collaboration, and integrity.

·       The ability to periodically travel within the United States.
