Hayden Panettiere Is A Real-Life 'Hero' For Her Openness About Postpartum Depression [Forbes.com]

When new mom Hayden Panettieresought help at a treatment center forpostpartum depression, several outlets noted the similarity between her real-life storyline and that of her character on the show Nashville, country singer Juliette Barnes. The Washington Postdescribed Juliette’s “raw, upsetting storyline about struggling with postpartum depression,” in which she has refused to seek help and abandoned her family.

In reality, Panettiere, the actress, is seeking help — and that means she better resembles the breakout role that introduced her to most fans, cell-rejuvenating cheerleader Claire Bennet in the show Heroes. Panettiere cannot heal immediately as Claire did, of course, but can heal eventually and she is a hero for speaking very publicly about the very painful, debilitating illness that postpartum depression is. I know firsthand how debilitating it is — I’ve only recently recovered from it myself.
