Funding for trauma-informed care issued - Iowa

"United Way of the Quad-Cities AreaΒ has granted $75,000 to advance health in the Quad-Cities. The funding will help to continue the Quad-City-wide work in trauma-informed care. With this type of care, trained staff respond to the impact of traumatic stress on children at social service agencies.

"One out of every four children attending school has been exposed to a traumatic event that can affect their behavior and ability to learn, according to a news release from United Way. Children who have experienced traumatic events are more likely to drop out, not read at grade level, have a lower GPA and eventually face problems in the workplace. Trauma-informed care looks to help these children not experience these adverse effects later in life...."
