The extended network of family, friends, and community supports are rarely engaged or actively involved in family treatment. And if they are, their roles and functions are not well defined. Therefore, the key questions are: “Why does this happen?” and “How do we overcome this problem?” We use the term “village” interchangeably with the term extended family.

In this 10-minute training, Dr. Sells will examine the top two reasons why there is currently such a lack of extended family involvement in mental health treatment and what we can do about it.
