The grin on Mayte Hernandez's face was almost as big as the one on her yellow smiley face T-shirt during an recent talent show and picnic that Emergence Health Network put on for people with an intellectual/developmental disability — or IDD.
"Look at her," said Rosario Angeles, a program administer for Emergence Health Network. "We started this program about two months ago and ever since, you can see them moving a lot more and losing a lot of weight and having a lot of fun."
Emergence Health Network is a center for people with mental health and intellectual disabilities.
It recently began a fitness and wellness program for its consumers including weekly Zumba classes, aerobic classes and weight training, all specifically tailored to the IDD population.
