Eastern VA TICNs Community Conversation with First Lady Pamela Northam

Representatives from trauma-informed community networks throughout eastern Virginia engaged in a community conversation on October 21 as part of First Lady Pamela Northam's On the Road to Resilience Tour. The conversation was moderated by Melissa McGinn, Director of Community Programs at Greater Richmond SCAN and State Coordinator for Virginia's Trauma-Informed Community Networks. Participants included Senator Montgomery ‘Monty’ Mason; Dr. Janice Underwood, the Commonwealth of Virginia’s first cabinet-level Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer; Chidi Jenkins, Advisor on Childhood Trauma & Resiliency; Rachel Becker, Policy Advisor, HHR; and representatives from the Greater Williamsburg TICN, Hampton Roads TICN, Northern Neck TICN, and Eastern Shore TICN. This was the first hybrid conversation of the tour, with Greater Williamsburg hosting in person and some participants joining via Zoom. Network members raised issues around equity, paid leave and living wages, racial justice, and more, with the goal of helping to inform the incoming administration about the needs in their communities. Watch a recording of the conversation.

The next and final conversation of the tour will be in southwest Virginia as part of the Rural Resilience Summit. You can register here to tune into that conversation and hear from the networks in that region.

The VA TICNs are a multi-sector coalition of networks focused on building resilience and preventing and mitigating the impact of trauma in their communities and creating a more trauma-informed and resilient culture in Virginia. The VA TICNs work together with state partners to change practices, policies, systems within their regions and at the state level. Greater Richmond SCAN convenes bi-monthly meetings of the VA TICNs, provides support and technical assistance to the 26 networks, and distributes a bi-weekly eNote with resources and events.
