A crowd of 80 that included members of the state’s Legislature and experts in the mental health and addiction recovery fields met at the Seabrook Community Center for the Integrated Systems of Care Legislative Summit Friday morning. The event included keynote speakers, an expert panel, and a presentation by Dover Youth 2 Youth.
“We’ve been talking about the devastation and the issues surrounding it, but I hope we can start shifting the conversation to what a solution-focused approach looks like,” said Sandi Coyle, one of the event’s organizers. Coyle is the Public Health Advisory Council Co-Lead for the Seacoast Regional Public Health Network. “I hope we can make linkages and see what kind of action we can take.”
Coyle, along with Seacoast Youth Services’ Executive Director Vic Maloney and Program Director Stephanie Wright, organized the regional summit that focused on discussing solutions to prevention, treatment, and recovery of substance use disorder and mental health needs. The team invited representatives from the Seacoast and northern Massachusetts communities to discuss their experience with addiction-related issues. The speakers and audience members shared ideas about promoting a seamless approach to substance misuse education and mental health.
