Toxic Algae Blooms Cause 500,000 People in the Midwest to Loose WaterDriven by Climate Change, Algae Blooms Behind Ohio Water Scare Are New Normal

The toxic algae bloom in Lake Erie that provoked last weekend's tap water ban in Toledo, Ohio—where nearlyhalf a million people were told not to use water for drinking, cooking, or bathing—is a preview of similar problems to come around the world, scientists say, thanks in part to climate change.

This is exactly what the International Transformational Resilience Coalition says is an example of why they're in existence. Their goal is a challenging one: to raise awareness of how climate change traumatizes communities around the world. The group’s mission is to not only educate the mental health field about this threat, but to also provide preventive solutions before disaster strikes. Here's a Q-and-A that Rebecca Ruiz did with some of the founding members of the organization:

And so as I live on Upper Lake Huron (The Most Beautiful Lake in the World To Me) this downstate algae bloom is frightening... I have lived on this lake or Lake Superior my whole life.... It gives water to millions of folks including Canada  (Lake Superior) but yet it is being polluted by human means...Folks here thought they would always have water to drink forever cause The Great Lakes would give water to them.. This year because of the rain ... Lake Huron is High and I mean High... I am shocked at how high it is... Last year me and my dogs could go out a mile and not hit water..... this is not normal... Normally Lake Huron goes down an inch or two and comes up the same --- you would never know the difference... i certainly never noticed but this year RAIN RAIN RAIN..... and the lake is up beyond marshes... I actually think it is where it is naturally supposed to be but it is far higher then it was last year this is something to think about... if you are an environmentalist look up 350.org.
