Dr. Gabor Maté on the Stress-Disease Connection, Addiction and the Destruction of American Childhood

In December 2012, Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now!, did a one-hour interview with Dr. Gabor Maté. It's old, but Because it's not on Vimeo or YouTube, this can't be added to the video section. Although this is a year old, it's an interesting interview. The transcript is available at this link, also. There's also a link to all of Maté's videos on YouTube below.

Democracy Now! special with the Canadian physician and bestselling author, Dr. Gabor Maté. From disease to addiction, parenting to attention deficit disorder, Maté’s work focuses on the centrality of early childhood experiences to the development of the brain, and how those experiences can impact everything from behavioral patterns to physical and mental illness. While the relationship between emotional stress and disease, and mental and physical health more broadly, is often considered controversial within medical orthodoxy, Maté argues too many doctors seem to have forgotten what was once a commonplace assumption, that emotions are deeply implicated in both the development of illness, addictions and disorders, and in their healing.

For anyone working with children this is a must see video. Dr. Gabor clearly articulates many of the reasons for why we as a society are suffering an epidemic of violence. He speaks of the misguided policy emphasis of testing over social emotional well being. Talks about the importance of attachment and healthy adults in our children's lives. Identifies reasons that have led to the fragmentation and eventual loss of community life...... I could go on,please take the time to view.
