DOCUMENTARY, “MY NAME IS FAITH” TO BE SHOWN IN DOUGLASVILLE, GA

Friday, June 19th is National Attachment Trauma Awareness Day (NATA Day) and this year advocates for abused and neglected children are hosting movie viewings all over the country in observation of this annual event.  Local advocates Kristy and Matt Robison of Douglasville, GA— adoptive parents of previously traumatized children—are hosting a free showing to raise awareness around early childhood trauma and attachment disorders at 7 PM at One Community Church, 6701 Church St.

Meet Faith, a 13-year-old girl who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). This powerful and at times very distressing film follows Faith as she attempts to heal from the trauma inflicted by her birth-mother's lifestyle and begins to develop trust for her new adoptive parents. But with one as emotionally bruised as Faith, it can be a seemingly impossible task for new parents to gain her love and trust, and their struggle as a new family begins to take its toll on all.  See the trailer at: https://youtu.be/DVB8PErpG4U

According to www.MyNameIsFaith.com, “The statistics are staggering. So many millions of children are orphaned, abandoned, neglected and abused that assigning a number to such a multitude of wounded souls would be almost meaningless. Every day approximately five children die of neglect in the U.S. alone. Of those who survive, what's next? No one could manage to endure such experiences unscathed.”

Families with traumatized children often feel misunderstood and disconnected. While Faith’s parents were working with her in Texas, the Robisons were going through the fight of their lives right here in Douglasville.

“People just could not understand or relate to us or our child.  We felt isolated.   I had to do something to help people understand what families like ours go through—so I decided to host this movie viewing in observation of NATA Day,” shares Kristy Robison.

Both of these families stand proudly in their truth, are anxious to be heard, and they and their children continue to heal.
