Crystal's too-short life

Here's an article from The American Prospect on the relationship between poverty and life expectancy.  I was struck by the fact that over the past eighteen years, life expectancy for poor white women has actually decreased by some five years. The article tells the story of a woman named Crystal, an overweight, diabetic grandmother who died at the age of 38.  It's well worth taking the time to read.
