All people, no matter where they live, should benefit from a park where they can connect with neighbors, nature, and activities that matter to them. The Complete Parks approach is one way to make parks accessible to everyone in your neighborhood, town, city, or county. Wherever you are in the Complete Parks process, there’s something for you among our latest Complete Parks publications:

  • New to Complete Parks? Start with Complete Parks Overview: Creating an Equitable Parks System, which introduces the Complete Parks approach, the goals of a Complete Parks system, and the 7 Complete Parks elements. This document will appeal especially to people who see parks improvements as a powerful way to enhance equity initiatives, community engagement, and multi-agency coordination within local government.
  • Does your parks system measure up? A parks system assessment can help prioritize strategies for improvement and reveal patterns of inequities that should be addressed and remedied. Complete Parks Indicators presents sample metrics for each of the Complete Parks elements. It also provides guidance for multidisciplinary groups on how to collect data that will help them envision and create their own Complete Parks system.
  • Ready to commit? Americans say that parks and recreation are an important service provided by their local government, on par with education and social services. Complete Parks Model Resolution provides sample language that a city or county government can use to formally launch a Complete Parks planning process. Passing a resolution would make improving parks a government priority and establish a process for creating a Complete Parks system.

Parks are good for health, for communities, the economy, the environment, and more. Creating a Complete Parks system is an investment in your city or county that promotes economic development, public health, and community engagement.

Our Complete Parks tools can help you build partnerships both across government departments and across neighborhoods and community groups that still can’t use parks safely or easily, to create parks that benefit all who live nearby.
