Cardin announces grants to curb domestic violence fatalities - Maryland

"U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, a cosponsor of the Violence Against Women Act, joined Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder in Rockville last week to announce the availability of grants nationwide for programs that will be modeled after Maryland’s effort toΒ  reduce domestic violence homicides, according to a news release.

Speaking at the Montgomery County Family Justice Center, Biden and Holder shined a national spotlight on the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence, which has utilized a comprehensive program to reportedly reduce the state's domestic violence homicide rate by 34 percent over the past five years. It utilizes law enforcement officers, health professionals, faith organizations and others to identify and support high-risk victims and offer services...."
