Calls for nurses to talk about mental health and wellbeing [Stuff.co.nz]

 

Nurses are good at taking care of other people, but their own health needs to be a priority, a Massey University senior lecturer says. 

Busy environments, high expectations and pressures associated with rosters can take a toll on nurses, and they are often stressed and overworked, Dr Stacey Wilson said.

She urged  nurses to take care of themselves, look after their colleagues and not be afraid to seek help.

"There has been a surge in research about moral distress, compassion fatigue and burnout in the nursing sector, associated with risk factors of anxiety and depression.
