"Building a Trauma-Informed Nation" inspires "Resilience USA"

Abuild

Building a Trauma-Informed Nation -- conference, amplifier sites and webcast -- starts this Tuesday morning. About 250 people are converging in the Cesar Chavez Auditorium at the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, DC. Hundreds -- perhaps thousands -- of people will meet in 49 amplifier sites across the U.S. And the webcast has reached its registration limit. (If you haven't registered, you'll be able to watch the webcast when it's archived.)

To capture what happens at the two-day event -- and to begin providing a picture of what's happening at the national level in the ACE-, trauma-informed and resilience-building movement -- we created a national group on ACEsConnection. It's called Resilience USA.

 Aresilience

We've gathered some examples of who's doing what on a national level. This includes federal agencies, such as SAMHSA. Foundations, such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Legislation being considered in the U.S. Congress. National professional organizations such as the American Bar Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. National nonprofits, such as Futures Without Violence.

We've also got a map and list of all states that have done their own ACE surveys, a list of state legislation, and a growing list of cities, counties and regions that have trauma-informed groups on ACEsConnection or have started consortia of some sort. We've pointed out who's gathering national data, including the National Survey of Children's Health and Annie E. Casey Foundation's KIDS COUNT.

THE INFO ON THE GROUP IS JUST A START!! So, this is where we'd like your input. If you want to add information about what your national organization is doing in the arena of ACE-, trauma-informed and resilience-building practices, please join Resilience USA and post a short blog about it. You can read any of the blog posts so far to see how we're describing what folks are doing, and follow the same format.

OR, if you notice a post that's incomplete, add a comment to it, and we'll incorporate the information into the main post.

But this group is more than just a resource for action at the national level....or actions that are spreading across the U.S. We'll be telling and gathering stories, too. To start off, Elizabeth Prewitt will be blogging from the conference (give a wave when she takes your photo!). If you're participating in an amplifier site, please feel free to post a blog -- and photos-- about how many people attended and what the reaction was. Or send the info to us in a message through this site or an email, and we'll post it for you.

We also plan on following up the national conference with chats and discussions about the most salient and talked-about points that came out of the two days. We want to propel these into activities inspired by the conference tag line: Moving the Conversation into Action!
