An invitation from filmmaker Ana Joanes

Dear AcesConnection community: Below is a note of invitation to trauma informed providers in the Bay Area from Ana Joanes, the creator of the documentary, Wrestling Ghosts. This is a film about a young mother healing from childhood trauma as she raises her young sons: it is heartwarming, inspiring, and serves to break the isolation around the struggles so many of us face when we parent with ACEs.

Ana and her crew will be in Oakland for a screening of her documentary next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 30 and I am helping her organize for the event. Please read her invitation below and consider joining us! Also please consider sending the invitation to your clients and community. This is intended to be a healing event for all who gather.... Our hope is that it catalyzes awareness

If you are not in the Bay Area, but would like to see this film come to your area, reach out to Ana to invite her! (her email is below)

All my best, Angela

Dear healers and trauma-informed providers:

Thank you for the work you do. I know how difficult and demanding your work is and the dedication that's required of you. Thank you!
It is my deepest hope that my documentary, Wrestling Ghosts, not only raises awareness about childhood trauma and inspires people to start their own healing journey, but also that it supports you as a provider. I hope you will find my movie helpful to your clients, and a tool to create community and build more visibility for your practice. I would be thrilled to have your presence at the screening on Saturday Sept. 29th and would like to extend all trauma-informed providers a free ticket. (Please RSVP to charlotte@WrestlingGhosts.com so I can add you to our guest list.) Finally, if this is of interest to you, please fill out this form so I can start putting together localized list or trauma-informed resources for my audience and website visitors.

And PLEASE spread the word! Share on social media (FB link below), like our page on twitter, FB and instagram, and send a personal email invite to your clients, friends, and colleagues (I pasted below a blurb, link, and poster in case that's helpful!)

Wrestling Ghosts, a raw, intimate, and heart-opening documentary about childhood trauma and healing, is premiering at the LA Film festival on Sept. 27th.

Wrestling Ghosts follows the epic inner journey of Kim, a young mother who, over two heart-breaking and inspiring years, battles the traumas from her past to create a new present and future for her and her family. In this intimate portrait, Kim shares deeply personal moments that most of us keep secret in shame, and invites us into her counseling sessions. With her counselors’ help, Kim opens up to new ways of thinking and uncovers what has blocked her from experiencing the joy and connection she most desires. She learns about the impact of childhood trauma on her brain, and how, tragically, this very damage causes the trauma to be passed on to her own children. Armed with knowledge and compassion, she pursues new strategies to heal herself.

"Wrestling Ghosts is very moving and very stirring—a real accomplishment. The portrayal both of mental suffering and of therapy is profound and beautifully done." -Andrew Solomon, Author of The Noonday Demon & Far from the Tree

“Incredible. Haunting and strange and beautiful and incredibly moving.”
-Dan Cogan, Founder Impact Partners
