Aldea recognized for mental health program

"The mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut and other recent high-profile violent acts have many people interested in learning more about the signs of mental illness.

"One Napa-based nonprofit has been offering training for two years in β€œMental Health First Aid,” a public education program that teaches how to identify, understand and respond to the signs of mental illness.

"Aldea Children and Family Services, which provides mental health and child welfare services, implemented Mental Health First Aid training in 2010. Since then, the nonprofit has trained more than 1,000 teachers, first responders and residents from Napa and Solano counties on how to identify and assess mental health issues...."
