Acknowledging The Bear: What Our Schools REALLY Need

A wonderful blog post from Sophie Lucido Johnson, a teacher who works with children identified as having emotional disturbances. ACEsConnection member Dr. Nadine Burke Harris is quoted in this article.

"...Home for Brooke is a little confusing right now. Her mom isn't getting along well with her dad, so they've made a deal where all Brooke's brothers are staying at her dad's house while Brooke and her sister are staying with her mom. Brooke really only gets to see her brothers at school, and even then, it doesn't happen often. Brooke's mom has a history of schizophrenia, which can be difficult for her to monitor on her own. Brooke's mom wants the whole family to move to a better house, but things keep getting in the way: the house isn't ready, or there are unexpected medical issues. In any case, all of Brooke's stuff has been packed up and in boxes for the the last three months. She's been sleeping in a sleeping bag on the floor with her sister...."
