Abt Associates to Evaluate Effectiveness of Training of Community-based Providers in Care of Female Victims of Trauma

"Abt Associates has been awarded a contract from the Office of Women’s Health (OWH) to evaluate its National Training Initiative on Trauma-Informed Care for Community-Based Providers.

“Women and girls who are victims of trauma can be re-traumatized if their providers are uniformed and untrained in the effects of trauma and inadvertently employ intimidating or insensitive practices,” said Dr. Danna Mauch, principal associate and senior fellow at Abt Associates and co-principal investigator of the two-year project.  “To ensure community-based service providers and organizations can adeptly care for this population, OWH developed a training and technical assistance curriculum for them. Abt will determine the effectiveness of this curriculum in developing their competence to deliver care instilled with a strong understanding of the impact of trauma on women and girls.”...
