A year after fatal Chardon High School shooting, superintendent isn't interested in having teachers carry guns - Ohio

"A year after the deadly shooting in Chardon High School's cafeteria, Superintendent Joseph Bergant said he has no interest in arming teachers to keep the district's school buildings safe....

"On Friday, counselors said the legal process has been a focus of attention in town and as it develops and is publicized, it could be a trigger for additional trauma....

"Advisory members from the fund have reported that more than $420,000 of that has been used to assist the families who were directly impacted by the shooting with living expenses and other needs.

"...In addition, the fund has helped pay for experts on trauma to talk to students, parents and teachers and has helped pay for training of eight counselors in the community to be trained to provide "trauma-informed care" to people in the community for years to come.

"Money from the fund was also requested by Chardon students who wanted to participate in projects that would help others heal, including the "Linus Project" for which students made blankets for other children experiencing traumatic events...."
