A Neuroscientist Explores The Biology Of Addiction In 'Never Enough' [npr.org]

Growing up, neuroscientist Judith Grisel would take little sips of alcohol at family events, but it wasn't until she was 13 that she experienced being drunk for the first time. Everything changed.

"It was so complete and so profound," she says. "I suddenly felt less anxious, less insecure, less inept to cope with the world. Suddenly I was full and OK in a way that I had never been."

Grisel began chasing that feeling. Over the years, she struggled with alcohol, marijuana and cocaine. But along the way, she also became interested in the neuroscience of addiction.

I am looking for leading expert and presenter on substance use, mental health, and ACEs/ childhood trauma, focused on child welfare.  Is anyone aware of someone near the Midwest (or nationally) that can present on this?

I have a conference I am exploring speakers for and it is specific to child welfare workers, community partners, parents/youth that have been engaged in addressing racial disproportionality and disparity in child welfare.  If you have heard a speaker that has captured the ACEs/childhood trauma work with equity issues and substance use/mental health and child welfare.  PLEASE let me know so that  I can connect and explore some possibilities.

Thank you in advance.
