Sonoma County Human Services integrates ACES science training in New Employee Orientation (NEO)

Hi, Tina- Child Parent Institute is one of the CBOs in Sonoma County that embraces the Strengthening Families Approach/Five Protective Factors. We aim to incorporate the 5 Protective Factors in all of our work, including evaluating our programs within the framework. Hi Tina I am the Parent Resources Director at CPI (Child Parent Institute). Now that everyone has given you the evidence based etc formal info, I will add the informal info. I think what helped us be such enthusiastic implementers of the Family Strengthening model was that we did some staff trainings that were a fun way to learn about this model. I used some activities that helped staff think about what factors they had and how they could see that in themselves and in the families we serve.

Local Sonoma County folks are hungry for resources to implement the "Strengthening Families" framework. Upstream Investments, First Five and Public Health's Maternal Child Adolescent Health teams offered recent training on Strengthening Families. All events immediately "sold out." How terrific that Karen shares a resource for how we can continue to learn more via this great website!

In Vermont, opioid use was a factor in 80% of cases in which a child under the age of 3 was taken into custody, according to one state survey. The number of children under the custody of the Department for Children and Families as of last September grew 40% from two years earlier to 1,373, driven mainly by parental opioid addiction, according to Gov.
