Re: Faces of ACEs Video Showing at Savoy Theater Great Success!

Kathy Hentcy ·
That’d be great, Cissy. Should I write something specific for the larger community? There are some assumptions in that piece (like, you’re from Vermont and know what the Savoy Theater is!). If you think it works fine as is, though, that’s fine too – you’d have a better eye for that than I would. ACEs Connection launches Cooperative of Communities

Jane Stevens ·
The ACEs Connection Cooperative of Communities launches today. We want to continue to contribute to the ACEs movement for as long as it takes to create a worldwide healing-centered culture based on ACEs science. We want that to take hold in this world in the same way electricity has — we only notice it if it isn’t there. First, a clarification: Nothing on ACEsConnection.com changes! Membership remains free! Everything our current 300+ communities use stays free, and remains free for new ones.

ACEs Connection's Inclusion Tool makes sure nobody's left out

We developed ACEs Connection's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Tool — called the Inclusion Tool, for short — to ensure that ACEs initiatives across the world focus on being inclusive when forming a steering committee, recruiting leaders, providing education about ACEs science, recruiting members, or providing resources and services within their communities. The more inclusive your ACEs initiative is, the more diverse it will be, giving your initiative a real shot at achieving equity and...

Gaps in health are large, persistent and increasing, and RWJF is committed to a system that meets people’s goals and needs and addresses these gaps that many populations face. Studies should include a focus on health equity by...

Faces of ACEs Video Showing at Savoy Theater Great Success!

Kathy Hentcy ·
It was a full house last at the Savoy Theater, in Montpelier VT, to see Kim Pierce's video, "Faces of ACEs." They had a second showing since not everyone who had come out on a windy, snowy Sunday evening could get in for the first showing. The video is a very moving account of Kim's work screening her patients at the Plainfield Health Center for ACEs, and their responses to the screening. It is clear that the discussions about ACEs and their connections to life patterns is transformative for...

Stephen Porges on the Body's Response to Trauma

Kathy Hentcy ·
Stephen Porges: ‘Survivors are blamed because they don’t fight’ Excellent interview with trauma expert Stephen Porges. His work gets right at the intersection of experience and what can be life-long effects of traumatic events. From the article: "The point that we have to understand is that when a person has a reaction or response to trauma, the body interprets the traumatic event as a life threat. There’s a massive re-tuning of how the nervous system works, how it regulates underlying...

Thank you to ACEs Connection - an AMAZING Resource

Kathy Hentcy ·
This is just a quick note to thank ACEs Connection for the incredible resources that are offered simply as a result of joining the website. In Vermont we are busy with our "Building Flourishing Communities" initiative, built on Laura Porter's Self-Healing Communities model. We are 18 months into our work and have just secured a second round of funding by being part of a federal grant that our Child Development Division won. We are very small, and have very little bandwidth for anything other...

Two studies shed light on state legislators’ views on ACEs science and trauma policy

New and returning lawmakers take the oath of office on day one of Washington state's 2017 legislative session. — Jeanie Lindsay/Northwest News Network As advocates prepare to see how ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) science, trauma, and resilience play out in the 2020 state legislative sessions — many beginning in January — they are undoubtedly asking: “What does a legislator want?" It may be a stretch to play on Freud’s question: “What does a women want?", but the query captures how...
