They all hailed from places that had recently been scorched or flooded by natural disasters: wildfires in California and the Columbia River Gorge, hurricanes in Florida, the lingering residue of 2012’s post-tropical cyclone Sandy in the Northeast.

Back then, HIV disease was still an unfamiliar and frightening illness, even for medical personnel. The general public was concerned about...

Sonoma County shelters decry loss in federal funding [PressDemocrat.com]

Jane Stevens ·
A change in federal funding for homeless charities coupled with how the state distributes the money has three Sonoma County nonprofits facing a $1 million shortfall that could reduce their hours, staffing and number of programs. Catholic Charities, Committee on the Shelterless (COTS) and InterFaith Shelter Network were bouyed this month by an $800,000 check from the county board of supervisors for the upcoming fiscal year. Why We Need to Root for the Philadelphia Eagles

Next week the Philadelphia Eagles are going to the Super Bowl, and while some of us already have plans to cheer them on from our living rooms, there is another opportunity for us to show them our support. Eagles players and coach Jeffrey Lurie are waging a battle to ensure criminal justice reform and bringing an end to racial inequality.
