Re: Mobilizing our Community

Former Member ·
You guys and gals are so lucky to be there. I would give my shirt, pants and my car to be a part of your team. It is kind of hard kind-of going this alone but good thing I am passionate about this. I don't give up. And I can come on this page and ACEs in Philadelphia and Community Managers and steal ideas!!!!!!!!!!! Tina

Re: Strengthening-Families-Protective-Factors.pdf

Hi Tina I am the Parent Resources Director at CPI (Child Parent Institute). Now that everyone has given you the evidence based etc formal info, I will add the informal info. I think what helped us be such enthusiastic implementers of the Family Strengthening model was that we did some staff trainings that were a fun way to learn about this model. I used some activities that helped staff think about what factors they had and how they could see that in themselves and in the families we serve.

Re: Sonoma County ACES Connection Meeting 11/30/16

Allen K. Nishikawa ·
So, I'm a bit surprised that the thoughts I sent to our leadership and later posted here on 11/9/16 for everyone to read are not mentioned at all. While the concept of looking at the original document for principles is good in theory, it should be remembered that at the last meeting people had issues with the original being "unwelcoming." I think the discussion on this matter will be a bit more lively than you imagined. Below is a copy of my posting. Apply rules sparingly but fairly Use the...

Re: Challenges of Youth Conference April 12, 2018 at Sonoma County Office of Education

Jacob Rich ·
It would be cool to see something about youth engagement, organizing, or action research to discuss empowering youth to address issues in their community. THe different breakout groups seem more focused on addressing risk versus empowering youth to make systems/ policy change etc. Just an observation of mine. I also think that kind of engagement work might be more in line with the self healing communities model. Cheers, Jacob On Wed, Jan 17, 2018 at 10:25 AM, ACEsConnection <...

Re: Ventura County residents fire recovery

Holly White-Wolfe ·
Dear Gail, In our community, we set up a local assistance center as folks needed a one stop shop for rebuilding their lives. We turned an old warehouse into a giant "health fair" model where agencies set up booths and staff/volunteers guided families and individuals to the services they needed. We had FEMA, Social Security, DMV, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Permits Department, CalFresh and CalJobs, EDD, and insurance companies all under one roof. Is there any chance Ventura can set this up for...

Re: SCAC Policy Committee Meeting

Karen Clemmer ·
Looking at item 3.3 I wonder if this Community Resilience Initiative : CRIResilient.org might be a useful model to consider? They have been very success - over a number of years - working at a grassroots community level and bringing in local partners and key stakeholders. T hey've worked through early bumps and are open to sharing their lessons learned. *Their annual conference (#300+ attendees?) is sold out early each year! This year they had 13 states and several Canadian provinces and the...
