Kiwanis of Elizabethtown Gives Christmas Shopping Spree

The Kiwanis Club of Elizabethtown was excited to continue with tradition this past Tuesday. Members of the local civic group met girls from the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina (BCHNC) Lake Waccamaw campus at Leinwand’s to give them the gift of a shopping spree.

“They really enjoyed themselves,” Ray Cockrell, CFP® Interim President of the BCHNC, said about the young ladies shopping at Leinwand’s.

“I appreciate the Kiwanis. The girls had a great time shopping.” Dr. Cathy Gantz, Principal of Thomas Academy at BCHNC, stated.

Leinwand’s works with the Kiwanis of Elizabethtown each year to give the young ladies gifts they may need and enjoy.

After the shopping spree, the girls and their chaperones joined the Kiwanis Club and the East Bladen and West Bladen Key Club members for dinner at San Jose Restaurant.

East Bladen Key Club members and two students from the BCHNC gave presentations about their experience at the Kiwanis Key Leader Camp.

Key Clubbers Remi West and Mars Inman explained the camp allowed them to experience personal development, learn more about leadership, and network with their peers, which established new friendships. The students from East Bladen and Thomas Academy said their favorite part about camp was the new things they learned and receiving message “grams” from other campers.

After the meal and the presentations, the BCHNC members received more surprises. Key Club and Kiwanis members distributed more Christmas gifts to those in attendance.

In closing, the Kiwanis Club members greatly appreciated their President, Dr. Lisa Bryan, by naming her the Kiwanian of the Year. Kiwanian Michael Aycock presented Dr. Bryan with a plaque stating, “For your unselfish, devoted, and compassionate service to the local, State, and National Kiwanis, Thank You.”

The girls from BCHNC were transported to Elizabethtown by the local Jaycees bus. When a community works together, great things are possible.
