The power and passion of a survivor - Cissy White (www.thetraumatherapistproject.com)

Excerpt from the Trauma Therapist Podcast hosted by Guy McPherson, PhD.

This podcast is about the human spirit. Period.
Trauma, yes.
Healing, yes.
Relationship, yes.
But most of all, the humanbeingness within each of those things.

Today, it’s about the journey of the survivor and one of the people forging a path by sharing her journey, and the lessons we can all take whether we’re a therapist, teacher, survivor, or all of the above – Cissy White!

Cissy is a trauma-mama writer and joy-stalking survivor. She believes it’s possible – but difficult – to live, love, and parent well while post-traumatically stressed.

Cissy’s goal is to make talk about trauma and healing less clinical and more conversational, less abstract and more accessible. She’s currently working at the ACEs Connection as the Northeast Community Facilitator and Parenting with ACEs Community, Manager. She believes the trauma-informed movement must be survivor-led.

Cissy's note: Even before I got cancer, being on the Trauma Therapist Podcast with Guy McPherson was a bucket-list item for me. It's the podcast where I first heard many speaking about the impact of post-traumatic stress and various approaches to healing. For me, hearing new information when I'm in a learning mode or stressed out is much easier than reading books or articles. Anyhow, this podcast was done on the very last day I had a head full of hair a few weeks after my first round of chemotherapy. I was on leave and recovering from surgery but I was so honored to to be invited on this podcast where I was welcome to speak and share as a survivor. One thing that brought me to this work and helped me manage my strong, introvert tendencies, is knowing we need to see and hear from those impacted by ACEs and with traumatic stress, and have lived expertise honored in professional settings beyond tokenism. So, we talk about that and of course, ACEs, ACEs Connection, and Parenting with ACEs, in this podcast as well as the second (yet to air) that was done as a follow-up.
