Still I Rise - A Documentary Highlighting Sex Trafficking (with ACEs Lurking in the Background).

Hey everyone! We hope the weekend has been a blast so far.

As you know, we rarely post on the weekend. However, although it is Sunday, the date is the 25th of April, so we are sharing this post in fulfilment of our promise to highlight the issue of ACEs and Human Trafficking on the 25th day of every month.

We did submit a post on the topic on 1st April to observe the 10th Anniversary of the laying in Parliament of the Trafficking In Persons Bill in Trinidad and Tobago. If you missed it, click here.

Today we want to share a link to a moving documentary titled, "Still I Rise". The ground-breaking documentary film "explores the relationship between racism and sex trafficking with the dynamic womxn closest to the problem and solutions. Filmed over the course of five years in the San Francisco Bay Area, Still I Rise follows the lives of brilliant pioneering advocates, Holly Joshi and Leah Albright."

Early in the documentary, a woman also shares her personal experiences prior to being prostituted - experiences in her childhood of domestic violence and sexual abuse. It is poignant to hear her link these and other harrowing and traumatic experiences to not only her eventual exploitation in the sex trade, but also her challenges during and following her exploitation in the sex trade. These are further compounded by the bias against her as a black female in a society that denigrates black females and in a state where 92% of sex trafficking victims are African-American.
