The Wake Food Security and Social Economic Vitality VISTAs work to increase access to food and services for Wake County’s most vulnerable residents. The goal of this project is to support communities in increasing their quality of life through food access and tools for facilitating community resiliency. With community residents’ voices guiding our efforts, we are aligning strategic partners to bridge gaps in resources while simultaneously building the capacity of residents to lead and contribute to positive community change efforts. Our ACES work will help to increase the number of partners and community members incorporating trauma informed care into their existing practices and ultimately reduce the number of children exposed to adverse childhood experiences in the Social and Economic Vitality Zones of Wake County, NC. The VISTA should have skills in oral and written communications, grant-writing, public speaking, customer service, problem solving & critical thinking skills, time management & organization. As well as have a basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, awareness of racial equity & cultural sensitivity, strong leadership, and the ability to work independently and on a team. Will require some weekend and evenings.
Member Duties : The VISTA will Coordinate resilience screenings to increase community awareness and dialogue around the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences. Including scheduling and identifying facilitators and speakers, finding appropriate community locations, conducting outreach, developing evaluation tools to assess pre/post learning occurring from the screenings, and create a facilitator toolkit to future partners to host screenings. The VISTA will recruit Restorative Circle participants & circle keepers to increase conversations and restorative practices. The VISTA will develop ACES structural concept to inform the Kaleidoscope gardening project at the Crosby Garfield Building by coordinating with community partners and identifying how to incorporate Nature to Nurture. Lastly, the VISTA will research available community resources, partners and trainings and share with community partners in SEV regions so they may incorporate trauma informed care into their existing systems.
