Reply to "Trauma-Informed Schools_Teacher Certification"

Hi Pamela,

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but The Sanctuary Model of trauma-informed care has 81 Sanctuary certified sites globally, some of which are school settings. The Pace School in Pennsylvania is a Sanctuary Certified, trauma informed school. The Sanctuary Model is the only evidenced-supported curriculum for trauma-informed care which can be applied in any number of human service settings.

This school district superintendent in St. Louis is looking at new ways to understand absenteeism in his district, Kelvin Adams. It sounds as if he is attempting to bring in a trauma-informed perspective to support school-district health and policy changes.

Reducing student absenteeism rates is how we were able to adopt this bill in Oregon, which includes trauma-informed awareness (House Bill 4002):

"SECTION 5. (1) As used in this section, “trauma-informed approach” means an approach that recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in students, families and staff and responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures and practices for the purposes of resisting the reoccurrence of trauma and promoting resiliency."

Best to you. -e
