Trauma informed approaches to reducing the use of restraint and seclusion

Hi folks, I've been extremely moved today to view the film, Restraint and Seclusion: Hear our Stories, which Chris highlighted in the Videos of the Week recently.

Along a related line, I wanted to draw attention to a training film and discussion resource produced in New Zealand recently, that advocates a trauma-informed approach to reducing the use of restraint and seclusion in adult mental health services.  While this is designed for a New Zealand context, many of the issues are similar to those noted in other countries - such as the over-representation of ethnic minorities in restraint statistics.

The resources and some background information about the Opening Doors project are available here:

The service user group that pulled this resource together are now contemplating the extent of restraint and seclusion for young people in NZ, both in education settings and within mental health services, and are considering how best they might be able to help address this.
