I work for a County Health and Human Services Agency in the area of Eligibility; food benefits, Medicaid/Medi-Cal, and Welfare to Work programs. Most entry level eligibility staff have minimal training in social work, if at all. We have developed a Trauma Informed Systems initiative and I am developing training for all new staff that start work in the Eligibility area, including clerical staff. This involves conducting annual scans, and the issue of Trauma Informed Supervisors has come up. Most of the supervisors working in Eligibility have little to no social work training either. Is anyone familiar with a training curriculum for supervisors that is outside of clinical practice? The Eligibility staff work with individuals and families exposed to trauma on a daily basis, and we know that many of them will have experienced trauma themselves. There is a great need to provide supervisors and managers in Eligibility with information and tools that can help them become more effective supervisors utilizing a trauma informed approach. I welcome any direction and suggestions.
