Reply to "The counseling Genogram tool: a perfect place to introduce ACEs?"

I was just sharing the awesomeness off the Genogram with another counselor at my school yesterday!  I've done these with students at the disciplinary alternative school for several years, and now, I am a crisis intervention counselor at a large high school here in Texas. I love all of the information thatthe students are very willing to sharewhen doing so with this tool. The best is when they begin to notice patterns and see, sometimes, how they have already begun demonstrating some of the same behaviors that their parents and grandparents have.  I had a school administrator come into one of our discussions one day while students were working on their own genograms, andshe was so impressed and fascinated, that she grabbed a piece of butcher paperand began having me coach her through completing oneof her own family. She said that she had a family reunion that weekend, and she shared it with family members as well. She was very excited abou the conversation beginning her own family.

Genograms are a VERY powerful tool and a great conversation starter as related to ACEs.
