Reply to "How to Get the Word Out About the ACE Study Cheap? Any Ideas?"

Hi Cissy, Thanks for those Ideas.  I am a little cowardice about approaching the paper about anything ACEs since I have bothered them so many times. Since last October, I have bothered them a lot -- but got them to include ACEs information 4x's since October. Now 5 times with our school presentation.  For our school presentation, I had a member of our group do ask the paper though - so I wouldn't have to.  But, the paper wants to sell papers and I am really the expert on this for here, so will have to let go of the fear.

There is going to be a "rally" in about 3 weeks at a local park and their group has a Facebook page (the group concerned about the heroin problem). That group appears to have followers from the PD, parole office, Prosecuting Attorney, Mayor and a local newspaper reporter -- then others that I don't know. I knew nothing about this page until yesterday when a member of our team showed me the site so then I put some information on the page re the origin of addiction -- a video by Dr. Felitti, from Alberta Family Wellness. The CDC ACE site, the graph of increasing ACEs vs increased risk of IV drug us, then I wrote up a plan.

Everyone on the Facebook page who was commenting - had the same theme, we need to "take back Alpena" but I noticed no one had a plan.  So I copied the roadmap for resilience and put some info together about how that could be used as a template for building a strong community and lastly Robin Saenger was invited to Wisconsin in 2012 and gave a wonderful talk about how her community started the process of becoming trauma informed with Peace for Tarpon --- So I put a little information on how this video was an example that could also be used as a framework.  (I don't know if that will be helpful --- but I had sent Robin's video to our Mayor almost a year ago and I know he has been on this site as he has been posting).  So yes, I think I will contact those folks who seem to be most interested in community building and learn their interests.  Hopefully we can grow what we are doing with our trauma group even more.

And if you think of anymore ideas about getting the word on ACEs out, please let me know.  Thank you Tina
