Re: Strengthening-Families-Protective-Factors.pdf
Hi Tina I am the Parent Resources Director at CPI (Child Parent Institute). Now that everyone has given you the evidence based etc formal info, I will add the informal info. I think what helped us be such enthusiastic implementers of the Family Strengthening model was that we did some staff trainings that were a fun way to learn about this model. I used some activities that helped staff think about what factors they had and how they could see that in themselves and in the families we serve.

This is an exciting opportunity - and the timing is perfect! We need state funding priorities to be clearly defined in terms of trauma informed practices & ACES -then at the local level we can align and design our efforts to fully support the larger statewide ACES movement. Even better, CDPH etc could offer specific desired ACES related outcomes for their various programs - which are implemented at a local level. Ideally, NACCHO -the organization for local health departments -would also...

Re: What has changed in Sonoma County around ACEs since 2015?
Hi Holly - Here are a few examples of changes I've seen: At a medical office the conversation shifted to ACEs, which lead to a request for technical information - upon providing the information, the physician stated the materials were shared at their provider meeting and now their administration is seeking ways to delve deeper into ACEs / TIC / Resilience, etc. at their internal provider meetings. Visiting the Health Sciences Dept. at SRJC and receiving a request for information for students...

Family Therapy is now a Medi-Cal Benefit
Medi-Cal has just published new policy making family therapy a covered benefit for children and adults with mental health disorders and for children who are at risk for mental health disorders. This will be especially relevant for children with ACEs. Under the guidance of the California Department of Health Care Services, the Medi-Cal fee-for-service program aims to provide health care services to about 13 million Medi-Cal beneficiaries. The Medi-Cal fee-for-service program adjudicates both...

Santa Rosa police to begin keeping racial data (Press Democrat)
By Lori Carter, July 1,2020, Press Democrat. Santa Rosa police will begin collecting demographic data on people its officers stop earlier than state law requires in an effort to quantify and ultimately prevent racial profiling. Chief Ray Navarro said Wednesday the department is working to begin gathering certain demographic details about pedestrian and traffic stops by 2021, one year earlier than required by the state Racial and Identity Profiling Act. The law, passed in 2015, gave smaller...
