SANTA ROSA - Teacher Linda Severs lost her school but not her house. Parent Matt Todhunter lost his home but not the school his children attended. And Debra Sanders, who has spent the last six years providing school services for homeless families, suddenly found her own family in that same classification. Northern California’s Oct. 8 wildfires were among the most destructive in U.S. history, and in Sonoma County, they uprooted an entire school system. As the fires raged, nearly all of the...

Who Cares for the Caregivers?
(A written version of a presentation given at the February Sonoma County ACEs Connection meeting.) Sonoma County ACEs Connection is trying out a new meeting topic focusing on personal stories. There are three reasons why personal stories are useful and powerful. The first is that people like and learn from stories. People learn in different ways, and Powerpoint presentations aren’t for everyone. The second reason is that we’re hoping to involve more members by encouraging them to share their...

You guys and gals are so lucky to be there. I would give my shirt, pants and my car to be a part of your team. It is kind of hard kind-of going this alone but good thing I am passionate about this. I don't give up. And I can come on this page and ACEs in Philadelphia and Community Managers and steal ideas!!!!!!!!!!! Tina

Re: An excellent presentation on ACES and its effects
I think this is one of the best PPTs I've seen. It's very useful for healthcare workers. Overall, I think it's a little too heavy on medical and science details for people outside the healthcare field. However, some of the slides could be incorporated into presentations for the general public or other sectors.

Re: Sonoma County ACEs Connection Meeting
Please see attached for the 10-24-18 meeting. Thank you @Michelle Dominguez I have a suggestion , as a way of accelerating the ACEs movement - would it be possible to have folks introduce themselves and share what brings them to the meeting - personal or professional (or both!)? Maybe they could also share what is happening in their work/world related to ACEs, trauma informed work and building resiliency? Additionally, I am wondering if folks who are participating on behalf of their...

Please see the link below for more details. If you need anything else, please let me know! Karen http://strategiesca.org/ Strategies 2.0 partners...

From the article: “As we became an accredited agency it required our police officers to work on best practices,” Burgner said. “We relied heavily on the health department to initially give us training on how to identify and react in the field and help people get the treatment and services they need.” The partnership has grown over the years to include training on behavioral health such as developmental disabilities, substance addiction and adverse childhood experiences as well as...
