Dr. Brenner makes some good points about trauma, ACEs, and the role doctors have in broaching the subject with their patients. I agree with him that there is a bias against discussing issues of trauma, but I think there are other significant obstacles as well. The past and current findings of various ACEs research are still not as widely known as one would hope. I think what is critically necessary is better integration of systems. This is a concept that is very important in behavioral health and I think it applies here. Screening for ACEs in routine medical check-ups is a great step and something that I hope gains more and more momentum. However, there also needs to be be better communication and interconnectedness among various social service systems. Hi Jeff, First welcome to the Philadelphia ACEs Group! Here are two specific Philadelphia studies that may be helpful. The first one is The Philadelphia Urban ACE Survey which is a quantitative study that will help to describe Philadelphia ACEs stats and sets the stage for the Pediatrics article . Roy Wade et al from Children's Hospital held several focus groups with 105 Philadelphia youth about ACEs and urban stressors. I hope these are helpful. Alyson

I had not thought about the relationship between a child witnessing animal cruelty and it causing trauma, but it certainly makes sense, especially as it has been documented over the years that certain offenders have a history of their own overt cruelty to animals.
