Congratulations Philly! Definitely, I think the Philadelphia Health Community places a big emphasis on keeping the community healthy, physically and mentally. The Public Health Centers is a good example of this, being the safety net for many that are unable to obtain medical insurance. Gerry

I would like to have Strength Based Trauma Informed Leadership Programs included in the resources guide. We are leading the way on integrating trauma informed practices in existing community programs. One example of an intervention we have spearheaded are interactive coping skill cards for children in after school programs. From there, I attended an Urban ACEs Task Force meeting as part of the Scattergood Foundation and began taking a class with Dr. Sandy Bloom at Drexel's School of Public Health called Violence, Trauma and Adversity. After attending an ACEs task force meeting last fall, I became very interested in the concept of ACEs and its intersect with public health in Philadelphia. As I graduate student of public health at Drexel University, I joined the Philadelphia ACEs connection group to help further my knowledge on different community sectors and the impact they may have on each other.

While we would all like to see our schools move towards being trauma-informed and sensitive environments for children, as well as for the adults who are with them each day, it is no simple task to accomplish. The Philadelphia Board of Education is holding an open public hearing Thursday afternoon, one of two that it is required by the City Charter to conduct annually on general topics. The three-hour meeting, which starts at 4 p.m., has no agenda except hearing from speakers. Student activists plan to renew their calls for police-free schools. Many others have registered to air their concerns about the conditions under which schools will resume in the fall, said Board President Joyce Wilkerson.
