Welcome to the TIC Education Workgroup! For those that were unable to attend our recent community round table, the Greater LA Task Force is mobilizing through the formation of specific workgroups. These groups will inform the Task Force’s strategic direction and be the backbone of our boots-on-the-ground action. Round table attendees self-selected into one of the four workgroups. Each group started the process of forming a vision and goals.
The TIC Education Workgroup generated 4 goals. They are listed below in no particular order with details and tactics also suggested at the round table. Some goals got a little more fleshed out than others, and we still may come up with new ideas too. *Note - We’ve added where there may some intersection with the other workgroups.
Goal 1:
Educating the general public (collaboration with Community Action and Engagement Workgroup)
To build awareness of trauma as major public health issue
To normalize/de-stigmatize trauma
To build empathy
Tactics:
Media campaign (ex. public service announcements, engaging entertainment industry to include trauma in film and television narratives)
Community educational events (ex. movie screenings, discussions)
Goal 2:
Educating direct service providers (collaboration with Resource Development Workgroup)
Educators/School personnel/Youth and student services
Complimentary/Alternative modality providers
Health care providers
Goal 3:
Educating leaders (collaboration with Policy Workgroup)
Goal 4:
Creating educational materials
PowerPoints
So where do we go from here? Here’s where we’d like to start:

Make sure your name and contact information is correct. Select the top 2 goals you are interested in working on. List them in order of preference (1=first choice, 2=second choice). We are hoping to have enough people to field a subgroup for all four goals. But if we don’t, then we can narrow our focus to the most commonly chosen goals.
