Table read of a musical theater piece about trauma

Hi folks, I will also post this on the events calendar.

I've been writing a musical theater show called PTSD: A Musical Guide to Surviving for the past two and a half years. The book (dialog) is now done, and many of the song lyrics have music to go with them. The next stage of development is for me (and possibly you!) to hear actors read/perform the script all the way through. As the writer, I'll get a chance to hear how things flow, see what works, and feel what a (small) audience feels.

The L.A. community of advocates, educators and therapists is invited to the reading. Feel free to bring/inform folks who might be interested but who aren't members of the forum.

When: Thursday, September 10, 6:30 pm

Where: The Songwriting School of Los Angeles, 4001 W. Magnolia, Burbank

RSVPs much appreciated. Dinner will be provided -- I need to know how much pizza to order. (There will be gluten free and vegetarian options, naturally.) Contact me at ptsdmusical@gmail.com.

- If you have a bit of acting in your blood and you'd like to be one of the performers/readers, let me know. You won't have to sing. You'll be provided with a script in advance, and I'll have copies that evening.

- Whether or not you can come to the reading, if you are interested in being among the reviewers of the script in the next few months, let me know.

- If you'd like to be kept in the loop about the project and receive occasional email updates, let me know.

The longer-term trajectory of the project: I hope it will eventually be performed on a regional stage in the United States, perhaps off-Broadway. I will make sure that the show is filmed and put up on the web so it can be streamed and seen by anyone with computer access. I also hope to have a cast album created with all the songs.  You can learn more about the project and the creators at www.ptsdmusical.com

Many thanks!

Hi Liz,

Please know I just joined your listserv for your musical on PTSD and Trauma.  A dear friend and colleague of mine, James Encinas, was Butch during your Table Read.  Thank you Liz for bringing to light how imperative our nation's understanding of PTSD and Trauma are.

Very much looking forward to following your process of bringing your musical into fruition, please know I am excited to come to your Musical.  What you've created is groundbreaking history!
