A Haven From Trauma’s Cruel Grip [NYTimes.com]

Samantha Sangenito ·
San Francisco — The sun was preternaturally bright the day Clare Senchyna’s 26 year-old son Camilo, her only child, was shot and killed in a random act of violence in San Francisco. On that morning two years ago, Ms. Senchyna drew the orange curtains in her bedroom, pulled up her blankets and stayed in bed for much of the next several months. It seemed to her an appropriate response to the end of the world. Her son, an emergency medical technician, had been out celebrating the completion of...

What Communities Know About The Body & Trauma Recovery - Echo Conference 2019

Louise Godbold ·
We have been banging the drum at Echo for some time now about trauma and how it gets stored in our bodies. We uphold the work of people like Dr. Peter Levine, Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and other researchers who have concluded that talk therapy alone is not enough to release and overwrite the disruptive patterns trauma creates in our bodies. At our 2019 conference , Trauma Recovery: Community Evidenced Practices (March 18 & 19) you will be able to explore for yourself a variety of new and...

I am also wondering if you may be aware of any preschool curriculum that has incorporated mindful practices such as yoga? This seems like such a great idea - I just wonder how mainstream these practices may be. Your work is inspiring! Please keep writing and sharing!! Karen
