Toxic stress from El Paso, Dayton, Gilroy shootings addressed in Thursday Community Resiliency Model Webinar

An ACEs Connection webinar will offer helpful self-regulation tools to those rocked by recent shootings in Gilroy, CA, El Paso, TX, and Dayton, OH.

The Building Resilient Communities webinar is offered by ACEs Connection this Thursday, August 9, at 10:00 AM PDT / 1:00 PM ED and will last approximately 1 hour. Elaine Miller-Karas will teach her Community Resiliency Model. Find registration details below. This webinar is free and open to the public. It serves professionals and community members.

Author and therapist Miller-Karas says the model has helped hundreds of thousands of disaster survivors be more available to serve themselves, their children, and their communities following traumatic events around the world.

"This webinar will explore integrating a biological-based model to reduce the impacts of toxic stress for children and adults. Due to the events of the last two weeks, Elaine will also include how CRM skills can help in the aftermath of tragedies such as mass shootings,” said Carey Sipp, ACEs Connection southeast community facilitator, who is hosting the webinar.

“CRM is a model both for prevention and to use in the aftermath of adverse events,” said Miller-Karas, who has circled the globe teaching CRM.

“Parents are the tuning forks for their children. Children may be worried about the events of the last week. It is important for the parents to ‘put their oxygen mask on first.’ Community Resiliency Model Skills can help with simple self-regulation skills for parents and their children,” said Miller-Karas.

“The Community Resiliency Model has been integrated worldwide into the Social, Emotional, and Ethical (SEE) Learning Program, a curriculum for schools K-12, inspired by his Holiness the Dalai Lama. SEE Learning provides educators with the tools they need to foster the development of emotional, social, and ethical intelligence for students and themselves. The SEE Learning’s Chapter 2 is based upon the Community Resiliency Model," Miller-Karas said.
