COVID-19: Boys and Men of Color, their Families and Communities A Spotlight on Youth Justice [shfcenter.org]

Tomorrow(April 24, 11 a.m. - 12 noon PT/ 2 - 3 p.m. ET), join advocates on the frontlines and philanthropy for an in-depth look at how leaders in youth justice are responding during the COVID-19 pandemic to protect young people, build power, and transform California’s youth justice system.

Speakers:

  • Frankie Guzman, Staff Attorney, National Center for Youth Law

  • Kim McGill, Organizer, Youth Justice Coalition

  • George Galvis, Executive Director, Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice

  • Rose Cahn, Senior Staff Attorney, Immigrant Legal Resource Center

  • Moderated by: Marc Philpart, Alliance for Boys and Men of Color, PolicyLink

The video call will be an opportunity to deepen understanding of current conditions facing youth and how leaders across the state are responding. Speakers will address emerging issues, such as organizing efforts to free young people at risk of COVID-19 while in detention, and the policy demands that seek to win investments in community care rather than punishment. Funders will hear about immediate and long-term opportunities to take action.
