Re: License to Parent, a Move the World Documentary (2018) by George Siegel
I watched the film and I was disappointed, perhaps because my hopes were way too high. I long for universal parenting education and I hoped this film would help move us in that direction. My discouragement comes from the lens through which this seemed to be portrayed; that teens (and other irresponsible people) were having babies and not taking care of them properly. Statistics were not accurate. For example, I looked up the statistics on teen pregnancy and they are at the lowest rate since...

I had the good fortune to have had a mentor, who shared a few things about "Learning Environments" with me about 4 1/2 decades ago. His tenure at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, at RIT, availed me to see 'Resilience Building" and appreciate the benefits to learning there, too.

Review: Cracked Up illustrates the dynamics of post-traumatic stress disorder with pure artistry. It is a powerful voice for healing.
One of the most moving films I have seen in, well….years Cracked Up currently on Netflix, is a stunning and running commentary on what goes on in homes that we never find out about. Cracked Up tells the story of Darrell Hammond, one of Saturday Night Live’s favorite stars and the world within him that remained hidden under brilliance, talent and hurt. This courageous film illustrates, in a way that few films have so well achieved, the dynamics of post-traumatic stress disorder or how pain...

A Witness to the Tulsa Massacre, and a Family History Forever Altered (nytimes.com)
Anneliese M. Bruner was in her mid-30s when her father presented her with a small red book. It was bound in cloth and worn at the corners. “This is a book your grandmother wrote,” he told her, “and I want you to see what you can do with it. You are the matriarch of the family now, and I’m giving this to you.” Opening it, she saw a panoramic photograph that revealed the utter destruction of the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Okla. , in the immediate aftermath of a white mob descending on the...
