What is it you do for a living? (Parenting, volunteering, CEO of social service organization, etc.)
I do my best to keep a roof over my head with just Social Security. (Last Winter I was able to earn some $ with tutoring at WCU, but this year I'm trying to avoid Covid as I'm extremely high risk.) I am the founder/director of SEASCAT.org I have several books I've written and really want to find a way to get them published during my lifetime. One is the story of Andy, who has too many alters to count. I'm the one who questioned his diagnosis and spent ten years living with him. SEASCAT.org was his idea. Trying to help him allowed me to ignore my own traumatic past. I've since had to deal with pretty much alone reading lots of books and attending CoDA. I was on SSDI for just over 25 years before aging into regular SS.
What organization(s) do you volunteer or work for?
SEASCAT, a Supportive Environment for Adult Survivors of Child Abuse & Trauma
We provide education to the communities in Western North Carolina (mostly Jackson, Swain, and Macon counties plus Cherokee tribal territory). Our goal is to help people understand survivors of child abuse so they can develop empathy and be more supportive. We are also an organizational member of NCH as we know that survivors can not recover when they are struggling with homelessness. I know, as I tried for decades to complete Maslow's triangle from the top down. It doesn't work.
What is your interest in PACEs and resilience science?
understanding. both for myself and sharing with others through SEASCAT.org
If you're part of a community-based PACEs initiative, which one?
I don't believe we are. I actually don't remember when/where I first heard about ACE's, it was quite a few years ago. I'm 68 years old, until you add in my ACE score, then I'm in my 80's.
